Shimla: Industries Minister Harshwardhan Chauhan on Tuesday presided over the 236th meeting of the Board of Directors of Himachal Pradesh General Industries Corporation Ltd. (HPGIC), during which key decisions were taken to strengthen the Corporation’s social responsibility initiatives and modernize its manufacturing infrastructure.

The Board approved the recommendations of the Corporation’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Committee, sanctioning an amount of ₹1,38,15,640 to the office of the Director General of Police, Himachal Pradesh. The funds will be utilized for the procurement of 12 vehicles, including four Scorpio and eight Bolero vehicles, to support the State Government’s Anti-Chitta (anti-drug) campaign.

In another significant CSR initiative, a contribution of ₹17,65,900 was approved for the construction of a new building for the Government Primary School at Suniyadi in Shillai area of Sirmaur district. The Board also approved the draft balance sheet of the Corporation for the financial year 2024–25.

Appreciating the dedication and hard work of HPGIC employees, the Industries Minister said that the Corporation has recorded a commendable profit of ₹13.37 crore despite stiff competition from private sector players and limited manpower.

Emphasizing the need for reinvestment, Harshwardhan Chauhan directed the Corporation to channel its profits towards the up-gradation and modernization of existing manufacturing units. In line with this vision, the Board approved a tender for the purchase of new plant and machinery to modernize HPGIC’s furniture factories.

The proposed modernization is expected to enable the Corporation to cater effectively to the growing demand for modern and modular furniture from both public and private sector clients within Himachal Pradesh, thereby enhancing productivity and competitiveness.
