Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board Limited (HPSEB) Spokesperson Anurag Parashar has confirmed that no posts have been abolished in the Board. He refuted employee organizations’ claims, stating that HPSEB is following directives from the Himachal Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission.
HP Electricity Regulatory Commission Directs Cost Reduction
The Commission has instructed HPSEB to reduce salaries and pension expenses, which are currently the highest in the country at Rs. 2.50 per unit. It has been reviewing the Board’s financial condition and advising cost-cutting measures to ensure financial stability.
Rationalization of Posts, Future Recruitment Plans
HPSEB is rationalizing specific job categories instead of abolishing them. The Board has assured that recruitment for these positions will be conducted in the future as needed.
HPSEB’s Role in Power Distribution and Staffing Details
HPSEB now primarily functions as a power distribution company but still retains 2,161 posts in the generation wing. This includes Junior Engineers (JE), Sub-Divisional Officers (SDO), Executive Engineers, and Superintendent Engineers. However, roles such as Mistry, DG Operator, Welder, and Telephone Attendant have become redundant and will be replaced with T-Mat positions.
Financial Support for Employees Amidst Reforms
HPSEB has disbursed Rs. 134 crore in Dearness Allowance (DA) and revised pay scale arrears in the past two months, an unprecedented financial move in recent years. The Board emphasizes the need for financial reforms to maintain fiscal health and ensure future payouts.
