India has set a new Guinness World Record for the “Most pledges received for an AI responsibility campaign in 24 hours,” with an impressive 250,946 valid pledges recorded between February 16–17, announced Ashwini Vaishnaw, Union Minister for Electronics and Information Technology, at the India AI Impact Summit 2026 held at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi.
The achievement was officially verified by Pravin Patel presence of S. KrishnanY; Abhishek Singh Kavita Bhatia and Srinivasan Iyengar Addressing the media, Ashwini Vaishnaw praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of engaging youth in responsible AI usage. He noted that the campaign reached out to colleges, faculty members, and students, encouraging them to use AI for societal good while ensuring ethical use. “A special round of applause to the 250,000 students who took the pledge. This is a proud day for the country and reflects the direction in which India must move — towards a future where AI is embraced responsibly,” he said.
The Minister emphasized that the record-breaking participation far exceeded the initial target of 5,000 pledges, highlighting strong public engagement and growing awareness around responsible AI adoption. The campaign marks a milestone in citizen-led digital responsibility and reinforces India’s commitment to promoting inclusion, ethics, and public trust in the global AI discourse.
