Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science and Technology, Dr. Jitendra Singh, chaired a high-level review of ISRO’s upcoming space missions for 2025, alongside outgoing Chairman Dr. S. Somnath, his successor Dr. V. Narayanan, and other senior officials. The meeting highlighted India’s ambitious space exploration plans, with key missions slated to take place in the first half of 2025.

One of the most anticipated projects is the Gaganyaan uncrewed orbital test mission, a critical milestone in India’s human spaceflight program. This mission will test the systems for crew safety and recovery, marking a significant step toward India’s first manned space mission. The successful execution of this mission is expected to boost India’s technological capabilities and set the stage for future human space exploration.

In addition, two GSLV missions, a commercial launch of LVM3, and a groundbreaking collaboration between ISRO and NASA on the NISAR satellite are also set for 2025. These missions aim to enhance India’s satellite navigation, Earth observation, and global positioning systems.

  • GSLV-F15 Mission (January): The launch of the NVS-02 navigation satellite will strengthen India’s NavIC constellation, improving India’s navigation and positioning capabilities through indigenously developed atomic clocks.
  • GSLV-F16 Mission (February): This mission will deploy NISAR, a sophisticated Earth observation satellite co-developed with NASA. NISAR will provide critical data on agricultural monitoring, climate change, and natural disaster tracking, highlighting India’s growing leadership in space science.
  • Commercial LVM3-M5 Mission (March): ISRO’s LVM3 rocket will deploy BlueBird Block-2 satellites for U.S.-based AST SpaceMobile, demonstrating ISRO’s increasing presence in the global space market.

Dr. Jitendra Singh lauded ISRO’s role in advancing India’s space capabilities and stressed the importance of public-private partnerships to propel India into the next phase of space exploration. The Minister also emphasized the need for collaboration to achieve technological advancements and position India as a leader in the global space community.

Reflecting on his tenure, Dr. S. Somnath expressed confidence in the success of the upcoming missions. Dr. V. Narayanan, ISRO’s new Chairman, outlined a strategic roadmap aimed at expanding ISRO’s global footprint, driving future space innovations, and fostering international collaborations.

As India embarks on these monumental missions, 2025 is set to be a landmark year for ISRO, solidifying the nation’s reputation as a space-faring powerhouse.
