Hailing the New Education policy approved by the Union Cabinet, Union Minister for Human Resource and Development Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ on Wednesday said that the new education policy will prove to be a milestone in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s creation of a new India.
‘For the first time in the history of the country, to formulate a policy at such a wide scale, discussions have been held with teachers from parents and village committees, public representatives from every corner of the country and after that a new education policy has been prepared, ‘ the Minister said at a press conference to inform the media about the Cabinet decisions.
The Union Cabinet, chaired by the Prime Minister, approved the much-awaited new education policy and the Ministry of Human Resource Development has been renamed as Ministry of Education in the new policy.
The country has again got a new education policy after nearly 34 years.
The much-awaited New Education Policy 2020 envisages major reforms in higher education, including target of 50 per cent gross enrollment ratio by 2035 and provision for multiple entry/exit.
Addressing a briefing on the Cabinet decision, Higher Education Secretary Amit Khare said the NEP would promote multi-disciplinary education and integrated five year Bachelor’s/Master’s course.
Other features include graded academic, administrative and financial autonomy of institutions and single regulator for all higher education working under a self-disclosure based transparent system for approvals in place of numerous ‘inspections’.
Also, e-courses will be developed in regional languages, virtual labs developed and a National Educational Technology Forum (NETF) is being created, he said.
