In a significant stride towards promoting nutrition awareness, Shimla’s District Magistrate, Aditya Negi, ceremoniously flagged off a nutrition awareness rally held in Shimla today.

The rally commenced from CTO Chowk and culminated at Sher-e-Punjab, covering a substantial route. School students and Anganwadi workers actively participated in the event, spreading awareness about crucial nutrition-related themes, including “Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao,” and the importance of balanced diets to combat malnutrition.

Approximately 300 Anganwadi workers and 200 local school students enthusiastically joined the rally. The primary objective of the event was to raise awareness among people about proper nutrition, aiming to fulfill the goals of the ‘Poshan Abhiyan,’ a nationwide campaign to combat malnutrition.

Mr. Negi explained that the rally was organized as part of the National Nutrition Month, which runs from September 1st to September 30th, 2023. Various activities are planned at the local level during this period to educate people about the significance of nutrition.

He further elaborated that this year’s theme for National Nutrition Month is “Suposhit Bharat, Sakshar Bharat, Sashakt Bharat” (Nourished India, Educated India, Empowered India). Events and activities in different regions of the district are aligned with this theme.

On September 30th, a district-level program will be organized at the Sabha Ghar in the Bachat Bhavan, Shimla, where ICDS blocks that have excelled in promoting proper nutrition will be honored. Additionally, a nutrition-themed ramp walk by children will be part of the program to create awareness.

Officials from the Women and Child Development Department were present at the event to support and supervise the activities. The nutrition awareness rally led by Aditya Negi demonstrates the district administration’s commitment to spreading awareness about nutrition and achieving the goals of the Poshan Abhiyan.
