In line with the Chief Minister’s Statewide Anti-Chitta campaign launched on 15 November to make Himachal Pradesh a drug-free state, a major inspection exercise was carried out on Wednesday targeting pharmaceutical manufacturing units across the State. The coordinated drive was jointly conducted by the Himachal Pradesh Police and the State Drugs Control Administration.

A total of 20 pharmaceutical units were inspected across six districts: two each in Una and Bilaspur, four in Solan, one in Sirmaur, one in police district Nurpur, and ten in police district Baddi. Inspections in five additional units were still underway at the time of reporting.

The primary goal of the operation was to detect and prevent illegal manufacturing of prohibited drugs and stop their unlawful diversion. The inspection teams focused particularly on units that were closed, suspended, or had surrendered their licenses. Recent intelligence inputs suggested the possibility of such inactive facilities being misused for clandestine production of illegal, counterfeit, or psychotropic substances.

The drive was conducted in a transparent, coordinated manner with active participation from police personnel and drug inspectors. Teams verified manufacturing licenses, examined documentation, assessed stock records, and conducted thorough physical inspections of warehouses and production sites to ensure full compliance with regulatory norms.

Irregularities were detected in four units during the special inspection. Legal proceedings, as per prescribed rules, are being initiated against these units.

Reaffirming its zero-tolerance stance against drugs, Himachal Pradesh Police emphasized its unwavering commitment to preventing misuse, illegal production, or unlawful diversion within pharmaceutical facilities across the State.
