President of India, Droupadi Murmu, attended the fifth convocation ceremony of AIIMS Bhubaneswar today, praising the institution’s contribution to healthcare, medical research, and community welfare over the past 12 years.
In her address, the President lauded AIIMS Bhubaneswar for its significant achievements, including recognition by the World Health Organization through the Asia Safe Surgical Implant Consortium QIP Award and the National Kayakalpa Award, received for five consecutive years for excellence in sanitation and hospital services.
Highlighting the importance of accessible and affordable healthcare, President Murmu said that AIIMS institutes across the country are ensuring quality medical services through cutting-edge technology and skilled professionals. She expressed confidence in India emerging as a global healthcare hub.
The President acknowledged advancements in medical research, crediting it for controlling epidemics and reducing the impact of diseases like smallpox, polio, and tuberculosis. She commended the efforts of healthcare workers, researchers, and government bodies.
Addressing contemporary health challenges, the President spoke on the growing concern of depression and lifestyle-related conditions like obesity. She emphasized the role of awareness, healthy living, yoga, and mental well-being practices in tackling these issues and encouraged doctors to promote these within communities.
She also urged the medical fraternity to focus on region-specific health problems, particularly Japanese Encephalitis and Sickle Cell Anemia in tribal populations, and stressed the need for targeted research and innovative treatment solutions.
