The Public Relations Society of India (PRSI), Shimla Chapter, marked the occasion of World Public Relations Day with an insightful webinar, shedding light on the significance of collaboration and effective disaster management in Himachal Pradesh. The virtual event featured Dr. Jaishri Jethwaney, Senior Advisor Communications (ITSU) at the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare and Former Professor & HoD (AD & PR) at IIMC, as the keynote speaker.

Dr. Jethwaney highlighted the crucial role played by public relations professionals in bridging the gap between organizations and the public, fostering transparent communication strategies, and building trust. In today’s fast-paced world, where information flows rapidly, skilled PR practitioners are instrumental in helping organizations navigate complex challenges and shape public perceptions. Commending the work of PR professionals in Himachal Pradesh, she emphasized that effective management has prevented the spread of negative news during the recent disaster.

BS Panwar, Vice President of PRSI Shimla Chapter, applauded the unity of all PR professionals in Himachal Pradesh who came together virtually to commemorate World Public Relations Day. This year’s theme, “Working Together To Harness the Potential of Public Relations – A Way Ahead,” underscores the importance of collaboration to maximize the impact of public relations in an interconnected world. He stressed the need for PR professionals to empower themselves strategically, staying well-informed amidst the overflow of information from various sources.

The President of the National Public Relations Society of India, Sh. Ajeet Pathak, reiterated the power of collaboration within the PR industry. By leveraging collective knowledge, skills, and experiences, PR professionals can drive innovation, address emerging challenges, and seize growth opportunities. Collaboration is the key to fully harnessing the potential of public relations, leading to meaningful and impactful outcomes.

Dr. Sunaina, Assistant Professor at Guru Jambheshwar University (Haryana), encouraged PR professionals to foster collaboration across disciplines, industries, and geographies. Breaking down silos and sharing best practices will enable them to develop innovative strategies that cater to the evolving needs of society, including embracing digital communication channels, sustainability practices, and championing diversity and inclusion.

Mr. Parveen Kumar, DIPRO Panchkula with additional charge of IPRO/Haryana Police Headquarters, acknowledged the dedication and professionalism of PR practitioners worldwide in building understanding, trust, and meaningful connections between organizations and the public. He urged PR professionals to continue learning, innovating, and collaborating, driving positive change and advancing the field of public relations.

Dr. Sheel Nidhi Tripathi, Associate Professor at Bharati Vidyapeeth’s Institute of Computer Applications and Management (New Delhi), emphasized the challenges posed by social media and stressed the careful handling of information. In the era of widespread social media influence, even non-professionals can have significant reach, making it essential for PRSI and other professional bodies to mentor upcoming PR professionals.

The webinar witnessed active participation from 35 PR professionals, and its successful execution was made possible by Dr. Dev Kanya Thakur, the Secretary General of the PRSI Shimla chapter, who moderated the session, and Jagmohan Sharma, the Treasurer of PRSI Shimla chapter, who coordinated the technical aspects.
