Shimla ASI Suspended After Viral Assault Clip

A police officer in Shimla has been suspended after a video circulating online appeared to show him assaulting a man during a roadside altercation. Taking swift action, Shimla Superintendent of Police Gaurav Singh confirmed that the Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) has been placed under immediate suspension, in line with the department’s zero-tolerance stance on misconduct.

The incident reportedly took place near Tavi Mod, where the officer was deployed for traffic control due to VVIP movement linked to the President’s visit. According to preliminary information, the confrontation began when a taxi driver was asked to move his vehicle and a nearby bike. The driver’s response led to a heated exchange, which escalated further.

In the viral footage, the officer is allegedly seen kicking the man as he attempts to record the interaction and capture the officer’s identification details. Police authorities have initiated a departmental inquiry to ensure a fair and unbiased probe. Officials stated that strict action will follow based on the findings. Reiterating its commitment to lawful and professional conduct, the Shimla police emphasised that any breach of discipline or misuse of authority will be dealt with firmly to maintain public trust and uphold the rule of law.
