Shimla District Badminton Championship 2015 held at Indira Gandhi Khel Parisar – Shimla

badminton16.7.15.insideBadminton is becoming a very popular sports among all age groups as can been seen from the number of increasing events and participants every year and to prove the same the District Badminton Association Organized a District Level Badminton Championship from 16th July to 19th July, 2015 at the Indira Gandhi Sports Complex, Shimla. Participants from different age group and different towns of Shimla District — Jubbal, Rohru, Theog etc., — were present in large numbers with full zeal and enthusiasm to participate in this major. The chief guest for the occasion was Vikramaditya Singh, President Youth Congress, Shimla, who was accompanied by Deputy Commissioner Dinesh Malhotra among others.

badminton16.7.15.inside1The competition is being held for both boys and girls in different age categories — Under 13, Under 15, Under 17, Under 19 and for men and women separately in different groups. The event began as the chief guest was honoured, who then declared the event open followed by a friendly match between Vikramaditya Singh and DC Dinesh Malhotra. In his address Singh said, “Such events encourage participation s as well as gives confidence to the players to step out of their comfort zone and play at the district and national level. To boost this sport, we shall try to open more sports complexes in various districts to encourage participation”.

badminton16.7.15.inside2Some of the participants for today’s event are — Under 13 Single: Paras Chaudhary and Arnav Chauhan from Shimla; Kuldeep Verma, Rahul Chauhan, Ujjaval Verma from Theog; Aashish Pathania from Jubbal; in Under 17 Single Dharmender, Piyush, Saurabh, Shivam and Arun from Theog; In Under 15 category Rahul, Anurag, Abhinav, Sidharth and Kuldeep and in Under 19 Naman, Gagan, Nitesh, Arun, Dhruv and Karan.
