The two Special Olympics participants and their three coaches from Himachal Pradesh, selected to take part in the Special Olympics to be held in Berlin in Germany from 17th to 25th June called on the Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla at Rajbhawan today. They briefed that as many as 198 athletes and 57 coaches from India are participating in 16 events.
Office bearers of the Himachal branch of Special Olympics Bharat and parents of the players were also present on the occasion. While extending his best wishes to the team members, the Governor said that the interest towards sports has increased in the country and Prime Minister Narendra Modi also encourages sports from every platform from time to time. “Sports talents are coming to the fore at the village level by organizing ‘Khelo India’ and MP sports competition”, said the Governor.
The Khelo India aims at improving India’s sports culture at the grass-root level through organized talent identification, structured sporting competitions and infrastructure development, said the Governor. He expressed hope that these players would definitely come back after winning medals and will bring laurels to the country and the State as well.
