In a move aimed at strengthening nutrition delivery systems across Himachal Pradesh, a high-level convergence and capacity-building meeting was held on May 5, 2026, under the chairmanship of Dr. S. P. Katyal, Chairman of the State Food Commission Himachal Pradesh.

The meeting brought together key stakeholders from academia and government, including experts from CSK Himachal Pradesh Krishi Vishvavidyalaya and Dr. Y.S. Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry, alongside officials from the Women & Child Development, School Education, and Health departments.

Dr. Katyal underlined that real progress in nutrition outcomes depends on strong coordination between departments, technical institutions, and field agencies. He stressed that all stakeholders must work in “mission mode” to ensure that nutrition schemes translate into visible ground-level impact.

The discussions focused on building stronger institutional linkages, improving technical support systems, and streamlining resource sharing between departments and universities. A key priority was structured, hands-on training for mid-day meal workers, anganwadi workers, and school staff to improve food quality, hygiene practices, and menu planning.

The concept of Nutri-Gardens emerged as a major highlight, with participants agreeing on scaling them up through Krishi Vigyan Kendras to ensure fresh, locally grown nutrition reaches communities directly.

To improve coordination, nodal officers will now be designated from the Women & Child Development and School Education departments to work closely with CSK HPKV. The university will support the initiative by developing training modules and conducting master trainer programmes, which will be extended to grassroots levels.

A detailed, time-bound action plan with clear responsibilities and monitoring mechanisms will soon be rolled out to ensure accountability and measurable outcomes.

Concluding the meeting, Dr. Katyal called for “result-oriented implementation,” stressing that the real success of these initiatives will be measured by improved diets, better hygiene practices, and stronger community participation across the state.
