State Government Determined To Improve The Economy Of Farmers

Himachal Pradesh is blessed with favorable climate, rich soil and abundant natural resources. Most of the state’s population lives in rural areas and is directly and indirectly associated with the agriculture sector. Agriculture and allied sectors play an important role in the economy of the state. The state government is implementing schemes keeping in view the interests of the hardworking farmers who grow gold from their fields.

To double the income of the farmers, the state government will promote integrated and holistic agricultural activities in the state under the ambitious scheme ‘Him Unnati’. Under the scheme, 2,603 clusters will be formed in the state. Presently 889 clusters have been identified across the state. Under this, 58,278 bigha land of the state will be covered. This will benefit 28,873 families in total. For the purpose of benefiting the people associated with agriculture and other allied sectors, an integrated action plan is being prepared. Special emphasis is also being laid on ensuring the use of technology in the agriculture sector.

To ensure productive utilization of the various crops grown in the State, the State Government focuses on value addition by enhancing the quality, taste and nutritional value of these crops through facilities like grading, processing, packaging, ideal storage and cold storage. Emphasis is also being laid on strengthening of refrigerated vans, supply chain and marketing for perishable produce. The state government is encouraging farmers to adopt Subhash Parlekar Natural Farming Method to reduce the cost of agriculture, improve soil health, reduce environmental pollution and produce chemical-free healthy food grains for consumers.

At present, 1,65,221 farmers of 3,611 panchayats of the state are successfully adopting natural farming and encouraging results are being seen. The state government is also promoting organic farming on a large scale. To promote natural farming, the state government is providing financial assistance for the purchase of indigenous cows. To promote natural products, emphasis is being laid on setting up special natural farmer-producer organizations in the state. Under the leadership of Chief Minister Thakur Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu, the state government is ensuring the welfare of every section of society.
