State Government to introduce high end technology in working of Forensic department: Chief Minister

While presiding over the H.P. Forensic Sciences Development Board meeting, Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu stressed on incorporating modern technology in order to reduce the waiting time for the processing of crime reports. He said that the department plays crucial role in solving the crime cases and the State Government would provide every possible assistance to modernize the department. He said that the department must ensure quality assurances in crime reports to improve conviction rates in the court of law.

Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu said that effective case management is essential in order to ensure punishment of the guilty in the court of law, therefore, proper sample collections from the crime scenes is necessary. He said that the department must introduce a bar coding system to maintain the integrity of sample collection from the crime scenes which would enhance the accuracy and reliability of evidence. He said that the State Government would provide four forensic vans for the effective handling of cases. He said that vacant functional posts of the department would be filled up to address the issue of shortage of manpower and the State Government would also upgrade the infrastructure. He said that forensic behavioral analysis unit, food forensic units and other new units would be established in the department for the effective functioning.

The Chief Minister stressed the need to rationalize the staff in the forensic department and said that the State Government would create District Forensic Units in Hamirpur, Una, Sirmaur, Kullu, Kinnaur and Lahaul-Spiti districts.   He said that department must ensure high end technology in the working of the department and the State Government would provide all possible support in this respect.

Dhani Ram Shandil, Education Minister Rohit Thakur, Chief Parliamentary Secretary Sanjay Awasthy, Chief Secretary Prabodh Saxena, Additional Chief Secretary Home Onkar Chand Sharma, Principal Secretary Devesh Kumar, Secretary to the Chief Minister Rakesh Kanwar, Advocate General Anoop Rattan, Director General of Police Atul Verma, OSD to the Chief Minister Gopal Sharma, Director Forensic Sciences Dr. Minakshi Mahajan and other Members of Board also attended the meeting.
