State Won The Best State Award And GSP Gold Partner Award

The Himachal Pradesh State has won the Best State Award and GSP Gold Partner Award given by the prestigious organization Centre for Science and Environment(CSE). Lalit Jain, Director, Environment, Science and Technology. Govt. of Himachal Pradesh cum Member Secretary, Himachal Pradesh Council for Science, Technology and Environment, (HIMCOSTE) received the award trophy and certificate on behalf of Himachal Pradesh State at India Habitat Centre, New Delhi on 21st February,2023. The award was given by Sunita Narayan, Director General of Centre for Science and Environment, (CSE) New Delhi under Green School Program (GSP) . Best District Award has been won by Distt Solan with 61 entries and nine schools were awarded ‘Green’ rating award. The Govt Sen. Sec. School, Himgiri, Chamba also won the GSP Land Manager Award. The two teachers from Himachal Pradesh won the GSP Ambassador Award.

The awards, given every year by CSE, are based on detailed and rigorous annual audits of resource management and eco-friendly practices within school campuses; this audit is done by the schools themselves with the help of CSE. Green School Programme(GSP) is a meaningful environmental education programme in which teachers and students perform rigorous environmental audits of air, energy, food, land, water and waste within their school’s premise. The objective of the programme is to foster environmental consciousness in the school community by following the principles of ‘learning by doing’ and enabling schools to integrate environmental education with mainstream education through knowledge building and the use of appropriate learning resources. The programme will provide a unique educational opportunity for students to be aware of the importance of renewable energy, especially rooftop photovoltaics technologies in the context of climate change and enable students to learn about technologies that have ecological benefits through real-life applications
