International Yoga Day is a special day to remind all of us to look after ourselves in simple ways like practicing yoga and staying active. International Yoga Day was established in the year 2015 and since then there has been no looking back. It is celebrated every year on 21 June that aims to to promote awareness of the benefits of the ancient practice known as yoga.
In this sequence, Shimla Nursing College celebrated International Day of Yoga in its college, to make its staff and students aware about the benefits of yoga and determined to make it a habit for healthy living. This year Theme of Yoga Day is “Yoga For Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam”, .i.e., Yoga for the welfare of all in the form of “One World-One Family”. It emphasizes the spirit of yoga, which unites and takes everyone along. Yoga is the journey of the self, to the self, through the self. Yoga should not be viewed as just a form of exercise. It should be considered a mantra for a healthy, happy and peaceful life.
There are innumerable postures your body can take. An asana is a posture. Among these, certain postures have been identified as “yoga asanas” or yogasanas. “Yoga” means that which takes you on to a higher dimension or higher perception of life. So, that kind of posture which leads you to a higher possibility is called a “yogasana.” Our mind is like a pendulum; One who oscillates between sorrow from past to future, regret and anger from worry, and fear and joy from happiness. Yoga postures enable us to maintain equanimity in life. Yogasanas bring balance in every aspect of our life.
