CM Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu today reiterated the state government’s firm commitment to the welfare, dignity and socio-economic empowerment of ex-servicemen, gallantry awardees and families of martyrs in Himachal Pradesh.
Describing ex-servicemen and martyrs’ families as the pride of the state, the Chief Minister said their unmatched contribution and supreme sacrifices in safeguarding the nation would always be remembered with gratitude and honour.
He informed that during the current financial year, over ₹17 crore has been disbursed to 2,263 beneficiaries under various welfare schemes. A sum of ₹6.12 crore was provided to 968 elderly pensioners to ensure financial security and dignified living. Additionally, 1,084 gallantry award winners received honorariums amounting to ₹3 crore in recognition of their exemplary service to the nation.
The government has also extended ₹7.62 crore to 57 dependents of defence personnel who were martyred or disabled in action, offering crucial financial assistance to their families. Further, ₹20.83 lakh was disbursed to 154 War Jagir beneficiaries as part of ongoing welfare measures.
To encourage youth participation in the armed forces, the state has sanctioned ₹2.28 crore for organizing Army recruitment rallies in Kangra, Mandi, Hamirpur and Shimla districts, aimed at fostering patriotism and motivating young aspirants.
Highlighting Himachal’s proud legacy, the Chief Minister noted that despite being a small state, it has produced four Param Vir Chakra awardees, reflecting the deep-rooted spirit of bravery and patriotism among its people.
He also announced that ₹10.26 crore has been earmarked for 2025–26 to strengthen and expand the Major Somnath Training Academy at Barchhwar in Mandi district. The academy plays a vital role in preparing youth for recruitment into the armed forces through quality training.
Reaffirming the government’s resolve, the Chief Minister assured that sustained efforts would continue to enhance welfare initiatives, ensuring that the sacrifices of ex-servicemen and martyrs’ families are honoured through meaningful and lasting support.
