Deputy Chief Whip Kewal Singh Pathania on Monday said the Congress Party’s impressive performance in the Urban Local Bodies (ULB) elections reflects the people’s strong faith in the welfare-driven and development-oriented policies of the state government led by Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu.
Addressing a press conference, Pathania thanked voters for their overwhelming support to Congress-backed candidates in Nagar Parishads and Nagar Panchayats across the state. He termed the mandate a clear endorsement of the government’s “Vyavastha Parivartan” vision and public-centric governance.
He highlighted key initiatives of the government, including restoration of the Old Pension Scheme, promotion of natural farming, expansion of self-employment schemes, women empowerment programmes, healthcare reforms, and major improvements in the education sector.
Pathania said the Rajiv Gandhi Swarozgar Startup Scheme is helping youth become self-reliant, while enhanced milk procurement prices are strengthening the rural economy and supporting farmers and livestock owners.
Referring to Kangra district, he said projects such as airport expansion, tourism infrastructure, and zipline ventures would boost employment and accelerate economic growth. He reiterated the government’s commitment to developing Kangra as the tourism capital of the state.
Calling the ULB results a positive signal for upcoming Panchayati Raj elections, Pathania said the Congress government has continued welfare and development works despite financial constraints. He also appreciated the efforts of election officials and district administration for ensuring smooth and fair polls.
