Women empowerment takes center stage at WorldSkills Shanghai 2026 (September 22–27) as 14 young women represent India across diverse skill disciplines. Making up more than one-fifth of India’s 70-member competitor contingent, these young professionals are competing in 63 skill categories at the 48th edition of the global competition.
Reflecting a major shift in India’s skilling landscape, female participants are breaking traditional barriers by entering technical and specialized domains such as Chemical Laboratory Technology, Logistics and Freight Forwarding, Visual Merchandising, Fashion Technology, and Retail Sales, alongside healthcare, hospitality, and culinary crafts.
Highlighting the milestone, Ms. Manisha Sensarma, Official Delegate for WorldSkills India and Senior Economic Adviser at the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, stated that skills have no gender. She emphasized that the diverse participation proves young women are choosing careers based on aptitude and aspiration while competing against exacting global standards.
The 14 competitors representing the nation include Sampada Desai (Chemical Laboratory Tech), Mehrunissa Begum (Logistics), Anuja Ajay Vare (Visual Merchandising), Vidhi Niravkumar Suthar (Fashion Tech), Saniya Joshi (Retail Sales), Vishnupriya Sunil (Health & Social Care), Rashmeet Kaur Hanspal (Hotel Reception), Jhansirani Rout (Restaurant Service), Thanushree Magesh (Cooking), Muskan (Painting & Decorating), Jui Santosh Sapke (Hairdressing), T.
