World Earth Day At St. Thomas School, Shimla: ‘Planet vs Plastics’ Theme

World Earth Day – St. Thomas School, Shimla, marked World Earth Day on April 22, 2024, with a series of events focusing on the theme ‘Planet vs Plastics’. The objective of this theme was to raise awareness about the harmful effects of single-use plastic and to encourage the search for eco-friendly alternatives.

Events Held:

  • Students from classes 9 to 12 presented a Nukkad Natak to explain the theme ‘Planet vs Plastics’, emphasizing the importance of reducing plastic usage and managing e-waste.
  • Various competitions including Painting, Declamation, Fancy Dress, and Quiz were organized to engage the students and foster environmental consciousness.

Declamation Competition:

  • Students from classes 4 and 5, representing all four houses of the school, participated in the declamation competition.
  • Mrs. Meera Samuel, President of YWCA Shimla, and Miss Rohini, General Secretary of YWCA Shimla, judged the competition.
  • Winners:
    • Class 4:
      • 1st Place: Naira (Shipkila House)
      • 2nd Place: Fatima (Toshqui House) and Abhinav (Chinar House)
      • 3rd Place: Ayaan (Kasturi House)
    • Class 5:
      • 1st Place: Saksham (Kasturi House)
      • 2nd Place: Viviksh (Chinar House)
      • 3rd Place: Aaradhya (Shipkila House)

Quiz Competition:

  • Students from classes 9 and 10 participated in the quiz competition.
  • Winners:
    • 1st Place: Daksh and Riddhi
    • 2nd Place: Nishant and Shefin
    • 3rd Place: Tie between Nongjang and Aamir

Principal’s Address: Mrs. Vidhupriya Chakravartry, the Principal of the school, emphasized the importance of the ‘Planet vs Plastics’ theme. She encouraged students to reduce the use of single-use plastics and explore sustainable alternatives.
