Strong messages shared on “World No Tobacco Day” and Drug Abuse

Mohit Kumar of Chinar House was adjudged as the ‘Best Dancer of the Day’.

Celebrations in the form of a Youth Festival was held at St. Thomas’ School, Shimla, wherein a seminar on “World – No Tobacco Day” was conducted for the school children. The highlight of this seminar was a powerpoint presentation on drug abuse presented by the Head Boy of the school, Mohit Kumar, an Anti Tobacco Pledge by Isaha, the school counsellor, and a speech on the social impact of drug addiction by the resource person of the day, Sandeep Sharma. The chief guest for the competition was Anuja Sharma, Associate Lecturer and HOD of English Department, St. Bede’s College, Shimla. The judges for the competition were Namita Sood and Kiran Singh, Language Teacher at Bishop Cotton School, Shimla.

Sharing the dais were Virender Dogra and Vikram Bhardwaj from New Life Foundation Rehabilitation Centre, Beolia who shared their personal experiences of drug abuse and made the youth of the school aware about the consequences of drug abuse. A small skit was presented by the school children.

Students of Classes 6, 7 and 8 also participated in a Salad Competition in which Toshqui House stood first, Chinar stood second and the third position was secured by Kasturi and Shipkila jointly. In the Rangoli Competition, Shipkila stood first, second position was taken by Chinar House and third position was taken by Kasturi and Toshqui. In the candle making competition, Chinar stood first, Toshqui second, Kasturi and Shipkila were third jointly.

A theme (wedding) based dance competition was conducted for Classes 9 to 12. All the participants expressed unity in diversity by depicting the four zones of India through their dances. Chinar house bagged the first position, Shipkila was second while Kasturi and Toshqui  shared the third position.
