In a major step towards addressing the growing stray cattle issue and safeguarding farmers’ livelihoods, the State Government has increased the monthly fodder grant for stray cattle housed in Gausadans from ₹700 to ₹1,200 per animal. The move, aimed at improving the welfare of Gauvansh and reducing crop damage caused by wandering cattle, reflects the government’s commitment to livestock care and agricultural sustainability.

A government spokesperson announced that the enhanced support will ensure better nutrition and management of stray cattle, thereby reducing their intrusion into farmlands and mitigating losses faced by farmers.

In addition to the increased fodder grant, the government continues to provide financial assistance for the establishment and expansion of Gausadans. New shelters are eligible for grants up to ₹10 lakh or 50% of the project cost, while expansion projects receive up to ₹5 lakh under similar terms.

To fund these welfare measures, a cess of ₹2.50 per liquor bottle, introduced earlier, continues to channel additional revenue into cattle care initiatives.

Under the leadership of CM Sukhu, the government is prioritizing long-term solutions to the stray cattle problem, recognizing its impact on agricultural productivity and farmer morale. The enhanced fodder support is expected to improve shelter conditions and play a key role in curbing the stray cattle menace across the state.
