Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Nandita Gupta has highlighted that the strength of any republic lies in the active participation of its women citizens. She said the Election Commission of India (ECI) has been consistently working to enhance women’s involvement in the electoral process, with the gender ratio—women voters per 1,000 male voters—serving as a key indicator monitored across all Assembly Constituencies.
According to the final publication of the Photo Electoral Rolls–2025, Himachal Pradesh recorded a women voter gender ratio of 981. Special awareness initiatives were launched in constituencies falling below the State and district averages. As a result, 16 Assembly Constituencies showed notable improvement over the past six months. These include Bharmaur (930 to 948), Indora (939 to 952), Fatehpur (972 to 976), Banjar (967 to 968), Karsog (972 to 977), Seraj (935 to 939), Drang (970 to 972), Chintpurni (959 to 961), Shri Naina Devi (962 to 966), Nalagarh (956 to 959), Doon (922 to 925), Kasauli (949 to 951), Shillai (820 to 833), Shimla (934 to 936), Rampur (946 to 950), and Rohru (955 to 967).
Continuing these efforts, Ms. Gupta interacted with women in the panchayats of Balikoti, Bandli and Kando-Bhatnol in the Shillai subdivision to promote voter registration. Booth Level Officers facilitated on-the-spot enrolment of eligible women. A total of 333 women were registered during this drive—148 from 14 polling stations in these panchayats and 185 from the remaining 97 polling stations of the Shillai constituency.
She directed field officials to intensify their efforts to improve the gender ratio further and instructed all District Election Officers to submit regular progress reports.
Gupta informed that the State’s women voter gender ratio has now risen from 981 to 983, marking a significant increase in women’s political participation across multiple constituencies.
