Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr. (Col.) Dhani Ram Shandil chaired the Governing Body meeting of the Rogi Kalyan Samiti of Dr. Rajendra Prasad Government Medical College, Tanda, through video conferencing today. The meeting reviewed the institution’s performance and achievements over the last three financial years, with emphasis on improving patient care and strengthening healthcare services.

The Health Minister said the State Government was committed to transforming the healthcare sector by upgrading medical infrastructure and ensuring access to quality treatment within the state. He added that several initiatives launched during the past three-and-a-half years have significantly contributed to modernising healthcare facilities across Himachal Pradesh.

Dr. Shandil informed that government medical institutions are being upgraded to match the standards of premier healthcare centres in the country. He said Rs. 75 crore has been approved for setting up advanced automated laboratories at Atal Institute of Medical Super Specialities, Chamiyana, Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital, Shimla, and Dr. Rajendra Prasad Government Medical College, Tanda.

He also announced that infrastructure at Tanda Medical College would be expanded to facilitate an increase in postgraduate medical seats while enhancing facilities for students pursuing Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) and nursing courses.

Highlighting recent technological advancements at the institution, the Minister said the medical college has been equipped with modern systems such as High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC), Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT) and Hemodiafiltration (HDF), which will strengthen diagnostic capabilities and improve critical care services.

Keeping in view the increasing number of patients and attendants visiting the hospital, Dr. Shandil said the government would also explore measures to expand parking facilities to improve convenience for the public.

The Minister further stated that obsolete medical equipment in government medical colleges is being replaced with advanced technology. Modern diagnostic facilities, including MRI scanners, CT scanners, digital radiography and digital mammography systems, are being installed to enhance the quality, accuracy and efficiency of healthcare services.

He added that the government is undertaking large-scale recruitment of doctors, professors, nurses and other healthcare personnel to reinforce the public health system and improve healthcare delivery across the state.

Reaffirming the government’s commitment to healthcare reforms, Dr. Shandil said sustained investment in infrastructure, technology and skilled human resources would help build a stronger, modern and patient-focused healthcare system for the people of Himachal Pradesh.
