CM Sukhu on Tuesday announced that Himachal Pradesh University (HPU) will introduce future-ready courses, including a B.Tech in Artificial Intelligence, and facilitate overseas exposure visits for students and faculty.

Addressing HPU’s 57th Foundation Day, Sukhu said the university would align its curriculum with emerging technologies such as AI, quantum computing and data storage. He announced a Rs. 5-crore grant to launch the AI course and said HPU would also serve as the state’s nodal agency for green hydrogen.

Highlighting the government’s education reforms, the Chief Minister said Himachal Pradesh had improved its quality education ranking from 21st to fifth. He added that enrolment in government schools had increased by over 24,000 due to initiatives such as English-medium education, CBSE-affiliated schools and day-boarding schools.

Sukhu said universities must focus on employment-oriented courses and assured that HPU students and teachers would benefit from international exposure visits.

He also laid the foundation stones of a Rs. 10.25-crore digital library and a Rs. 6.09-crore administrative block for the University Institute of Legal Studies, saying the projects would strengthen research and legal education.
