You give them an idea and within 10 to 15 minutes one is transformed into a powerful imaginative world. Our little storytellers never fail to amaze us with their unique and creative ideas. Building a plot, writing interesting characters, scheming, adding mystery or a sudden twist, was all witnessed during today’s Keekli Book Club session held at North Oak Public School, Sanjauli, Shimla.
Our storytellers were teamed into groups – the Sci-Fi team headed by Stavya, Anadya and Kavya; and the Fairy Dreamer were Gauri, Veda and Vibhawari. The clarity in thought and the narrative was apparent in their minds. On one hand we had Aliens vs. Robots and Humans, who finally defeat the Aliens and escape through time portals and Black Holes, while the Fairy Dreamers had a sweet story about a fairy and her two friends. The third story by Pritha was about a friendly Alien visiting Earth to warn the people of a future disaster, with an idea to save the planet by constructing an indestructible plastic dome around it.
The second part of the session was a summary reading of the most recent book read by the kids. The idea is to encourage them to read, observe their surroundings and pen their thoughts in the best was they can. In time, the kids have learnt the basic concept of story writing, that is, the beginning, the middle and the end and with that the focus should be on the details such as the plot, characters and mystery. All this was clearly visible in their stories today.
They will come back yet again with a promise to learn and experiment with ideas to dazzle us with their imaginative stories.
Looks like a great evening for the children!
Very good.
