The election machinery has been activated in Bilaspur following the announcement of Panchayati Raj elections by the State Election Commission. Authorities have begun preparations across the district, with polling scheduled in three phases on May 26, 28, and 30.
District Election Officer (Panchayat) and Deputy Commissioner Rahul Kumar confirmed that the nomination process will commence on May 7. Alongside the poll announcement, the Model Code of Conduct has come into immediate effect across the district.
Bilaspur’s Panchayati Raj structure includes 14 Zilla Parishad wards, 97 wards under four Panchayat Samitis, and 1,140 wards spread across 182 Gram Panchayats. Among development blocks, Sadar accounts for 49 panchayats, Ghumarwin has 63, Jhanduta 45, and Shri Naina Devi Ji block comprises 25 panchayats.
The district has a total electorate of 3,14,120 voters, including over 1.57 lakh men and 1.56 lakh women. Officials also reported the addition of 1,541 new voters to the updated rolls.
Polling will be conducted in a phased manner, covering 62 Gram Panchayats each in the first and second phases, and 58 in the final phase. Block-wise distribution ensures balanced coverage across all regions.
Calling for strong public participation, officials have urged voters to actively engage in the democratic process and help ensure smooth and fair elections across Bilaspur.
