Himachal Pradesh Declares Extra Day Off For Schools And Colleges Due To Inclement Weather

Amidst the aftermath of heavy rainfall and subsequent landslides that hit the region from August 12th to 14th, 2023, safety concerns have prompted a proactive response from educational authorities. Reports of road blockages and frequent landslides have led to a collective decision to prioritize the safety of students and staff.

Cognizant of the potential risks posed by compromised roadways and hazardous conditions, the Government of Himachal Pradesh, in accordance with the Director of Higher Education’s directive and invoking section 34 of the Disaster Management Act, 2005, has issued a critical order.

All Government and Private Educational Institutions, Colleges, Schools, Vocational Training Centers, and Aanganwadi centers in the Sub-Division Shimla (Rural & Urban) will remain closed on August 17, 2023. This resolute step underscores the paramount importance of student and employee safety during these challenging circumstances.

In line with the commitment to public safety, the heads of these educational institutions are entrusted with ensuring the strict compliance of this order. The decision not only reflects a dedication to the well-being of students and employees but also serves as a reminder of the region’s resilience in the face of natural adversities. As authorities continue to assess and address the situation, the educational community looks forward to the restoration of normalcy and the eventual resumption of educational activities once conditions improve.
