In line with the directions of CM Sukhu, the Education Department has made daily news reading during morning assemblies mandatory in all government schools across the state. A department spokesperson informed today that written instructions have been sent to all Deputy Directors for strict implementation of this initiative.
This move follows the Chief Minister’s surprise visit to Government Senior Secondary School in Baga Sarahan, Kullu, where he interacted with students and expressed concern over their lack of general awareness. He emphasized the importance of integrating practical knowledge with academic learning, especially to better prepare students for competitive exams and real-world challenges.
The department has issued detailed guidelines to support this initiative, focusing on improving general knowledge, critical thinking, and communication skills among students. School heads have been instructed to ensure the regular availability of newspapers in both English and Hindi to facilitate this daily activity.
According to the spokesperson, this step aims to help students build strong reading habits, improve vocabulary and pronunciation, and develop public speaking skills through regular participation in assemblies. The initiative is expected to foster a culture of staying informed and engaged with national and international current affairs, contributing to the holistic development of students.
