CM Sukhu today handed over appointment letters to 1,253 newly recruited constables during the ‘Rozgar Sankalp Mela’ at Police College, Daroh in Kangra district. Congratulating the recruits, he emphasized their key role in the fight against drug abuse and hailed the Himachal Pradesh Police as a strong and dependable force for the state.
The Chief Minister highlighted that the current recruitment process was conducted with full transparency, contrasting it with past lapses during the previous BJP regime when examination papers were leaked, causing cancellations and public resentment. To ensure fairness, the current recruitment was conducted through the Himachal Pradesh Public Service Commission instead of the Police Department.
Sukhu announced that 800 more constables will be recruited in the next two months, further strengthening the police force and improving public service delivery. He stressed that the newly appointed constables were not just joining a job, but taking on an important responsibility to serve and protect the public.
Highlighting the police force’s achievements, the Chief Minister noted that Himachal Pradesh ranks first in the country for average response time under the Emergency Response Support System (ERSS-112), consistently tops among hill states in the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems (CCTNS), and ranks fifth nationwide under the Investigation Tracking System for Sexual Offences (ITSSO).
The Chief Minister also announced measures to improve police uniforms, including procurement of high-quality fabric and increasing uniform grants for constables. Additionally, ex-servicemen in the police will be granted the rank of Honorary Head Constable after 10 years of service and Honorary Assistant Sub-Inspector after 15 years. Plans for the B-1 promotion examination from constable to head constable were also discussed, with the government prepared to defend its decision despite an interim High Court stay.
Sukhu reaffirmed the government’s commitment to combating the drug menace, particularly “Chitta.” He noted that 2,149 cases were registered under the NDPS Act in 2025, a 25% increase from the previous year. He highlighted mass awareness campaigns and Anti-Chitta Walkathons organized by the police, alongside strict action against 12 personnel involved in drug-related activities.
On the occasion, the Chief Minister administered an oath against drug abuse, while the Police Department conducted demonstrations of various rescue techniques, reinforcing their commitment to public safety and law enforcement excellence.
