The General Post Office, Shimla organized a district level philatelic exhibition on March 16-17, 2017 as an annual event to promote stamp collection as hobby for all.
Philatelists from all over the district exhibited their prized collections for display and competing against each other to win the tag for the best collection.
Organizers of the event said that the exhibition would inspire the youth to know more about unique hobby. “We want the people of our city to showcase their wonderful collections and attract the youth towards this incredible hobby.”
Nearly 21 participants in various categories participated in the exhibition including Major (Dr.) Ritu Kalra, Aditya Gangotra, Neelam Chandel, Harshit Jain, Mamta, Vinay Chandel, Kayva Sood, Yashvi Sood, Anvishiki Thakur, Subham Gautam, Ronak Sood, Aakrit Chabra, Amogh Vikram Singh, Vidant Chandel, Sarthak Sood and Karmaney Verma; exhibited their collections and won awards in various categories.
The exhibition was open for all including children. Participants were divided in groups wherein one group was for children up to tenth standard, and the other group was for youth above tenth standard. Other groups include jury, invitees and the others. Everyone got a chance to exhibit their personal collections of stamps.
People got an opportunity to see old heritage building covers, educational institute covers, sandpapers, stamps with butterflies, flora and fauna, famous personalities, hundred years of Indian Cinema, historic heroes and many others to name.
Aditya, an avid collector said, “Collecting postal stamps is my passion since 2004, when officers of GPO Shimla visited our school and introduced me to Philately. Since then I am a regular member of Philately Group, GPO Shimla. My mother also inspired me to collect the stamps and participate in the exhibitions. I have collected stamps from various sources and I have many unique themes of postal stamps which includes pre- and post-independence stamps, great personalities of India and world, legends of sports and Indian cinematography. The stamps with the themes of global biodiversity and scented stamps are my big treasure”.
While commenting on the exhibition one of the spectators said that, “It is quite an informative exhibition and I doubt many of us would have ever got an opportunity to see so many covers, letter and stamps under single roof with that much ease. Some of the exhibits are very old and I am glad that I took time to visit the show.”
The exhibition concluded with participants being honoured for their hard work. Major prizes where won by Major Karla.

शिमला डाक मंडल की ओर से वीरवार को गेयटी प्रेक्षागृह के टेवरन हाल में दो दिवसीय जिला स्तरीय डाक टिकट प्रदर्शनी का शुभारंभ एम.एल.कालिया चीफ पोस्टमास्टर जनरल हिमाचल प्रदेश डाक परिमंडल ने किया। इस समारोह में विशिष्ट अतिथि के रूप में निर्मल सिंह ,निदेशक डाक सेवाएं भी उपस्थित रहे। इस मौके पर मेजर डा. रितु कालरा अध्यक्षा हि.प्र. फिलैटेलिक क्लब आमंत्रित थे । इस अवसर पर राजकीय वरिष्ठ माध्यमिक पाठशाला लालपानी व राजकीय वरिष्ठ माध्यमिक पाठशाला ढली के छात्रों ने भी भाग लिया। इसके साथ ही प्रदर्शनी में भाग लेने वाले फिलैटलिस्ट एवं डाक विभाग के अन्य अधिकारी एवं कर्मचारी उपस्थित रहे ।
इस प्रदर्शनी में वरिष्ठ श्रेणी में भाग लेने वाले कुल 8 प्रतिभागियों ने 30 फ्रेमों, युवा श्रेणी में भाग लेने वाले 13 प्रतिभागियों ने 19 फ्रेमों तथा आमंत्रित श्रेणी में 2 फ्रेमों में अपने-अपने टिकट संग्रह प्रदर्शित किए। इनमें 163 वर्ष पुरानी टिकटें भी शामिल हैं जोकि दर्शनीय है ।
इससे पहले राजकीय कन्या वरिष्ठ माध्यमिक पाठशाला पोर्टमोर की छात्राओं ने गणेश बंदना से कार्यक्रम का आगाज किया । बिशन सिंह, प्रवर अधीक्षक डाकघर शिमला ने मुख्य अतिथि एवं वशिष्ट अतिथियों का स्वागत किया । मुख्य अतिथि एम.एल. कालिया, चीफ पोस्टमास्टर जनरल हिमाचल प्रदेश ने विभिन्न फिलैटलिस्टों के डाक टिकटों के संग्रहण के प्रयासों की सराहना की । इस अवसर पर निर्मल सिंह , निदेशक डाक सेवाएं हिमाचल प्रदेश ने भी अपने विचार रखे । मेजर डा. रितु कालरा अध्यक्षा हि.प्र. फिलैटेलिक क्लब ने डाक टिकटों के इतिहास की विस्तृत जानकारी दी । पहाड़ी नृत्य ने सभी का मन मोह लिया ।
इस मौके पर राजकीय कन्या वरिष्ठ माध्यमिक पाठशाला पोर्टमोर की छात्राओं ने सुंदर सांस्कृतिक कार्यक्रम प्रस्तुत कर दर्शकों का मन मोह लिया । इसमें छात्राओं में काजल, प्रेरणा, शगुन, आंचल, शवनम, मधु, शकिना, प्रिया, विद्यांशी, अंजलि, निधि, पूर्णिमा ने मिक्स नाटी की प्रस्तुति दी। इसमें छात्राओं ने धारो पांदे लागी कुकड़ी मामा, काला बाशा कऊआ, लाल चीडिये शेरे नही जाना अन्य मिक्स नाटी पर डांस किया। पोर्टमोर स्कूल की टीजीटी अध्यापिका मौसमी नेगी ने छात्राओं का सहयोग दिया। इसके अतिरिक्त डाक विभाग के कलाकार जोगिन्द्र सिंह ने भी पहाडी लोकगीत प्रस्तुत किया । मौके पर प्रकाश चंद गौतम प्रवर डाकपाल शिमला जी.पी.ओ. ने उपस्थित सभी अतिथियों, फिलैटलिस्टों तथा समारोह में शामिल होने वाले सभी लोगों का धन्यवाद कि ।
