In the past two and a half years, the HP Government, under the leadership of CM Sukhu, has launched a series of ambitious initiatives aimed at transforming the state into a ‘Green and Clean Himachal’. The focus has been on sustainable development, environmental protection, and building eco-conscious public habits.

Key decisions include the ban on 500 ml plastic water bottles from 1 June 2025, applicable across government programs, hotels, and official events. Additionally, a massive distribution drive of 60 lakh stainless steel bottles to school students was launched to discourage plastic use among the younger generation.

The state is moving swiftly towards its target of becoming a ‘Green Energy State’ by 31 March 2026. To achieve this, initiatives like solar energy adoption, construction of green corridors, and expansion of e-vehicle usage have been prioritized to reduce carbon emissions.

The launch of the ‘Clean City, Prosperous City’ campaign on 5 February has become a cornerstone in promoting urban cleanliness and digital public services. This two-month-long campaign involved 962 Self-Help Group members, 14 NGOs, and students from 85 schools, reaching 2.5 lakh households to spread awareness about cleanliness, sanitation, and online citizen services. Solution camps were organized at the ward level to directly address public concerns.

To bolster environmental enforcement, the government introduced the “Plastic Challan Mobile App”, enabling officials from 13 departments to issue digital fines, eliminating paperwork and improving regulation.

Additionally, Village Forest Management Societies (VFMS) are being recognized for their forest conservation efforts. The Chief Minister has called upon the youth to actively participate in preserving the natural heritage of the state while stressing the importance of balancing environmental conservation with developmental goals.

These sustained and multifaceted efforts reflect the government’s commitment to ensure a cleaner, greener, and more resilient Himachal for future generations.
