Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal, speaking as Chief Guest at the BRICS WBA Women-Led Development Conference in New Delhi, called on member nations to expand opportunities for women-led enterprises in global trade. Highlighting access to credit, market entry, and predictable rules as key barriers, Goyal outlined strategies to integrate women entrepreneurs into international value chains while drawing on lessons from India’s domestic initiatives.
Addressing credit access, Goyal urged turning the Jaipur Consensus proposal for a Women’s Advancement Fund into a concrete initiative and adjusting invoice discounting platforms to fit women exporters’ needs. To enhance market reach, he proposed a common digital BRICS trade platform to publish e-invoices, improve product visibility, and attract financial intermediaries. He also suggested organizing sector-specific, women-led business delegations to strengthen cross-border supply chains.
To establish predictable trading rules, Goyal advocated for a shared framework supporting electronic trade documents, e-customs declarations, and cross-border digital services. He encouraged BRICS members to tap into the $10 trillion global services trade by empowering women in mobility, digital tech, and service delivery. Additionally, he shared India’s success with the Government e-Marketplace (GeM) and One District, One Product (ODOP) initiatives as models for turning local producers into export hubs.
Despite global economic uncertainty and trade headwinds, Goyal emphasized India’s strong performance, noting that merchandise exports grew by over 15% between April and August 2026. He highlighted India’s 7.8% GDP growth in Q1 (April–June 2026) and reiterated the nation’s goal of reaching a $30 trillion economy by 2047, driven by raising female formal labor force participation toward 50% or more.
