Exploring Diverse Art Techniques At HC Rai Centenary ArtFest 2023

The HC Rai Centenary ArtFest is currently underway, celebrating the enduring legacy of the late HC Rai, a prominent figure in Himachal’s artistic landscape. This remarkable artist, who was awarded the prestigious Sardar Sobha Singh Lifetime Achievement Award by the H.P. Government, left an indelible mark on the state’s art scene. Notably, he served as the Founder Principal of RKMV College, Shimla, and H.P. Govt. College of Arts, Shimla.

Organized by the Language & Culture Department of Himachal Pradesh in collaboration with Abhivyakti, the ArtFest aims to inspire and nurture the creativity of young artists. The event includes an art workshop and a competition designed for school students to explore new learning techniques. These initiatives encourage students to experiment with various art forms and develop their unique styles.

The competition is divided into two categories: junior (for classes 3 to 6) and senior (for classes 7 to 10). Participants were provided with themes including “My Home,” “My Family,” “Mother Nature,” and “My School.” A total of 12 schools participated, with more than 50 students showcasing their artistic talents.

The art workshops were led by talented artists who shared their expertise in various mediums. For Poster and Watercolors, artists Jagjit Nishat and Murari Lal conducted the workshops, while for Oil Pastels, SN Kushawa, Narender Aggarwal, Bhim Singh, and Om Prakash Puri shared their knowledge. The Acrylic workshops were guided by Wahid and Surjit Singh.

The results of the competition and the prize distribution are scheduled for the closing ceremony on October 22. All participants will receive certificates for their participation.

In addition to these events, a Tankari workshop for senior artists is set to take place today at 4:00 PM, conducted by Dr. Kishori Chandel.

The HC Rai Centenary ArtFest is not only a celebration of art but also a platform to nurture and inspire the next generation of artists in Himachal Pradesh, keeping the legacy of HC Rai alive.
