YWCA141216 (4)A workshop on Gender Sensitization was organised at YWCA of Simla in collaboration with Jan Abhiyan Sanstha under the One Billion Rising Campaign. The aim of the Workshop was to sensitize the participants on gender, environment and social gap related issues. One Billion Rising started internationally, as a call to end violence against women. It commenced in 2013 within India, with the national secretariat located in Jagori Rural in Rakkar, Himachal Pradesh. Through creative forms of resistance, like dance, song, and more, OBR called attention to the existing deep rooted, harmful patriarchal structures of India. The OBR launches are initiated from Human Rights Week and will culminate on 31st March 2017. This year, the One Billion Rising Revolution is Escalating the campaign with the title: “Solidarity against the Exploitation of Women.”

YWCA141216 (1)Rohini Singh, General Secretary, YWCA of Simla discussed the One Billion Rising campaign and concept. Dr. Richa Minocha, Member Secretary, Jan Abhiyan Sanstha, spoke on gender sensitization and conducted gender exercises so the workshop became very participatory in nature. Short videos on the above stated subject were also screened during the workshop.
