Inaugurating the 74th State Level Van Mahotsav at Bagh near Shimla, Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla highlighted the significance of preserving forest wealth and the consequences of tampering with nature. The event, organized jointly by the Himachal Pradesh State Red Cross Society and State Forest Department, saw the planting of saplings, including Deodar trees, by Governor Shukla and Lady Governor Janaki Shukla.

Governor Shukla stressed the importance of balancing development with environmental concerns and protecting Himachal’s natural beauty. He urged the need to prioritize environmental preservation alongside progress. During his visit, Governor Shukla interacted with inmates at the Mental Health and Rehabilitation Hospital, Shimla, distributing fruits to patients. He also reviewed the state’s National Mental Health Program, emphasizing the importance of effective measures against drug addiction.

Director, Health Services, Dr. Gopal Berry detailed about the NMH Program being implemented in the State. Secretary to the Governor, Rajesh Sharma, Chief Medical Officer and Medical Superintendent, Mental Health and Rehabilitation Hospital, Shimla, Dr. Surekha Chopra and other officers were also present on the occasion. Volunteers from Red Cross and NSS actively participated in afforestation efforts during the event, promoting the message of environmental conservation.
