Governor Presides Over 16th Annual Meeting Of Senate At Nauni University

Governor, Shiv Pratap Shukla, while presiding over the 16th annual meeting of the Senate of Dr. Yashwant Singh Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry, Nauni today, said that special attention should be given to meet the academic needs of the students. He said that the university should concentrate on the skill development of the students. He said that it was our collective responsibility to re-establish this university as an ideal educational institution of the country. For this, continuous efforts were needed to run the academic and research activities of the university in a better way, he added.

He directed to organize the Senate meeting regularly. Expressing contentment, he said that the university has earned Rs. 30.74 crore as its domestic income last year and the university has also taken grants from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research for research and education works from the central government. He said that during this period the university has made a lot of progress in developing the infrastructure. In this direction, Rs. 37.99 crore has been spent on construction works since the last senate meeting. He said that the university has established modern laboratories.

Study rooms for students, e-carts and facilities like a solar roof top power plant and a solar steam kitchen for students to promote solar energy. The Governor said that the university library was being equipped with modern facilities for the students and scientists. During this period 4 thousand 623 new books, journals and theses have been added to the library collection. He said that our responsibility can’t be fulfilled by making the future generation a mere title holder.

“Our responsibility is to develop the courage and ability to face the contemporary challenges in the youth, only then the university will be able to play its role in the true sense”, said Shukla. MLAs and member University Senate Vinod Sultanpuri and Ajay Solanki also gave their valuable suggestions. Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Rajeshwar Singh Chandel welcomed the Governor and detailed about various activities of the University. 

He said that along with physical development, the university has achieved academic achievements during this period.  He said that 89 projects have been received for research through various agencies and institutions in the last five years and in the last month NABARD has given a grant of 29 lakhs for executing research work. He said that the state government has so far provided an amount of Rs. 5 crore to the university for natural farming.  He said that the university has earned an income of about Rs. 31 crore in the last one year.

Director, Research, Dr. Sanjeev Chauhan gave presentation on research activities and Director, education extension, Dr. Inder Dev gave presentation on extension activities on the occasion. Registrar of University Sandeep Negi, conducted the proceedings of meeting. Official and non-official members were also present on the occasion.
