Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has released ₹83.85 crore to upgrade healthcare infrastructure across Himachal Pradesh. The major capital boost aims to provide high-tech diagnostics and specialized treatments locally, eliminating long waiting times and preventing patients from traveling outside the state for medical care.
Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC), Shimla, receives the largest chunk of the equipment funds. Highlights include an ₹8 crore allocation for a 3D-imaging SPECT machine and a bone marrow stem cell separator, a ₹12 crore 256-slice CT scanner, six high-end ultrasound machines, and new X-ray systems.
Regional hubs are also getting targeted upgrades. Dr. RPGMC Tanda in Kangra gains ₹6 crore for six advanced ultrasound machines, while LBSGMC Nerchowk in Mandi receives ₹2 crore to build a dedicated PET Scan facility. Additionally, Civil Hospital Jawalamukhi in Kangra gets ₹17.95 crore for overall infrastructure and utility upgrades.
The funds also cover vital campus and housing support, including ₹4.90 crore for staff quarters at Joginder Nagar, ₹15.5 crore for multi-level parking and a police station at Medical College Jolsappar (Hamirpur), and facility expansions at Ghumarwin. CM Sukhu emphasized that these projects will deliver modern, affordable, and accessible healthcare to rural and remote communities across the state.
