Following directions from Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, the Education Department is in the final phase of ensuring that all 156 newly affiliated CBSE schools across Himachal Pradesh offer Arts, Science, and Commerce streams.

A review conducted by the department revealed that 18 of these schools were not yet providing all three streams. Taking serious note of the issue, the Chief Minister instructed officials to ensure complete academic stream availability in every CBSE-affiliated school.

The schools identified include Government Senior Secondary Schools at Kihar, Bara, Barsar, Batran, Sohari, Chadhiar, Kunsal, Lohardi, Saleti, Kolni Dhalwan, Upper Lambagaon, Nichar, Sarahan (Kullu), Baldeyan, Sainj, Nankhari, Kaffota, and Badhera. These institutions were lacking either the Science or Commerce stream.

To improve educational infrastructure and widen academic opportunities, the state government has decided to introduce the missing streams in these schools from the current academic session. Acting swiftly on the Chief Minister’s directives, the Education Department has already started the required procedural formalities, and an official notification is expected shortly.

The initiative is aimed at ensuring access to quality and comprehensive education, especially for students in rural areas. Earlier, the state government had approved 156 schools to operate under the CBSE curriculum as part of its larger effort to strengthen the education sector in Himachal Pradesh. The Chief Minister has also directed the department to ensure adequate teaching and support staff in these schools so that students can benefit from a strong academic environment.

The move to operationalise 156 CBSE-affiliated schools has already received a positive response, with a noticeable increase in student enrolment. These schools are expected to promote holistic development by giving equal importance to academics, sports, music, arts, and other extracurricular activities.
