The creativity and imagination of our budding writers at such a young age is  amazing. The clarity of thought, the expressive flow of ideas and words, and the command over language is highly commendable. The steps leading to the conception and final release of the book titled 51 Scintillating Tales – Short Stories by Children and its successful acceptance in the literary circles was quite encouraging for the young writers and that filled them with a feeling of proud accomplishment.

Following suit, we planned yet another short story competition for children under the age group of eighteen years. This time they were given an open theme, with a word limit of 1,000 to 5,000. The competition was held over a span of four months from April to July, 2022, and each month two winners were selected to be awarded a cash prize along with an assured place in the top 31 list of stories. Our winners for the four months were, Sanskriti Rao and Pritha Doegar in April; Shivangi Sharma and Aanika Gajendragad in May; Ananya Thakur and Charu Sharma in June; and Baani Simar Kaur and Vasundhara Joshi in July.

The young budding authors whose imagination and creativity together churned out a few mind-blowing stories, made it very difficult for the jury to award points and select the best thirty-one. Our esteemed panel of judges—Dr Vidyanidhi Chhabra, Gunjan Batra, Jael Priscilla, Prantik Bose, Rachna Rohatgi, Astha Chadha, Parveen Bhalla, and Tanaya Ghose Dastidar—had very encouraging words to share about the writers.

The winners were given feedback and ideas were also shared when a story needed a bit of improvement or building the characters more strongly or further working on the theme to make them ready for print. The children were also given a choice to supplement their stories with suitable self-drawn sketches.

Bringing something new for children gave birth to another idea, that is, to have them record their own stories, thus giving the reader the option to either read the story or listen to it via a podcast channel. Each story title page features a QR Code, that can be scanned with any smartphone to listen to the stories. Thus, we now introduce you to Keekli’s very own Podcast Channel, ‘Keekli – Little Steps Big Strides’. After auditions and voice-over training guidelines few selected children recorded all these stories for you to listen to. Due to paucity of time, a few stories were recorded by our team members as well. But this only adds to our resolve that the book and most of its elements are adapted by children. The credit for the book design cover too goes to two of our winners, Atharv Vats and Pritha Doegar.

We at KEEKLI are proud to present this incredible collection – Fiction Treasure Trove – 31 Short Stories by Children, edited by Sonia Dogra & Vandana Bhagra. We have put our hearts and souls into this prestigious project, and we hope that you will cherish each moment of reading this book.
