The Indian Institute of Advanced Study (IIAS), Rashtrapati Nivas, Shimla, organized an online workshop today aimed at enhancing the practical use of Hindi in official work. The session, held in the Institute’s Seminar Room, saw active participation from officers and staff members.

The workshop was conducted by Mr. Ajay Kumar Jha, Deputy Director (Official Language), Ministry of Education, Government of India. During his lecture, Mr. Jha highlighted the importance of using Hindi effectively in noting, drafting, and official correspondence. He emphasized that proper use of Hindi not only improves administrative clarity and efficiency but also supports compliance with official language policy requirements.

He further stressed the need for simple, reader-friendly translations, careful use of technical terms, and bridging the gap between official Hindi and commonly used Hindi. Responding to participants’ queries, Mr. Jha shared practical examples to tackle everyday challenges in official Hindi usage.

Dr. Akhilesh Pathak, Secretary (Official Language) & Public Relations Officer, moderated the programme. Participants described the workshop as highly practical and expressed the need for similar capacity-building initiatives in the future.

Such training programmes play a vital role in promoting awareness and strengthening adherence to official language policies within the Institute.
