- Unique Taste and Medicinal Values: Kangra Tea is known for its distinctive taste, fragrance, and medicinal properties attributed to its abundant pyrazine contents, antioxidants, phenolic compounds, amino acids, and more.
Historical Significance and Market Potential:
- Tea Export During the British Era: Kangra Tea was exported to European markets during the British era and received awards from Amsterdam and London markets between 1886 to 1895.
- Overcoming Market Limitations: Without EU registration, selling Kangra Tea in European markets was not possible until now.
- Growth Opportunities: With EU registration, the sale of Kangra Tea is expected to grow, opening up opportunities for tea growers in the state.
Preserving Traditional Products:
- State Government’s Commitment: The present State Government is dedicated to preserving traditional products and supporting local artisans and weavers.
- More than 400 Registered Products: More than 400 traditional products of the state, including Kullu shawl, Chamba Rumal, Kinnaur shawl, Kangra painting, Lahaul woolen socks, and gloves, have received GI status.
- Future Considerations: GI registration for Himachali cap, Sirmauri Loeya, Mandi Sepubari, Chamba metal craft, Kinnauri apple, and Kinnauri ornaments is currently under consideration.
