Himachal Pradesh Governor Kavinder Gupta addressed the 25th edition of ‘Manthan,’ an annual inter-school event organized by Rotary Club Shimla Midtown, emphasizing the pivotal role of youth in driving environmental protection and combating drug abuse.
Speaking to over 400 students and 150 teachers and parents, the Governor praised the initiative for fostering social responsibility among young minds through activities focused on ecological conservation, population challenges, and substance abuse prevention. Addressing the state’s fragile ecology, Gupta highlighted that Himachal’s natural resources—its forests, rivers, and biodiversity—are vital assets that demand a careful balance between infrastructure development and environmental care. He urged students to adopt sustainable habits, such as water conservation, plastic reduction, and proper waste management.
In his address on social issues, the Governor stressed that drug addiction destabilizes families and society at large. Aligning his vision with the national Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, he called for a widespread community movement to create a drug-free state. He advised students to stay clear of substance abuse, extend compassionate support to peers in need, and prioritize discipline and hard work.
The event concluded with Governor Gupta presenting awards to competition winners, while Rotary leaders—including Club President Rtn. Kavi Khanna, District Governor Rtn. Rita Kalra, and Rtn. Aparna Negi—outlined the club’s ongoing commitment to community welfare and environmental initiatives.
