Public Works Minister Vikramaditya Singh reviewed the department’s monsoon preparedness and directed officials to remain fully equipped to handle rain-related emergencies across Himachal Pradesh.
The Minister said around 15,500 workers, including 11,137 Beldars and 4,228 multi-task workers, have been deployed for quick restoration of roads. As many as 1,156 machines, including JCBs, bulldozers, robotic equipment and tippers, along with six bailey bridges, have been kept ready for emergency operations.
He directed officials to position machinery and construction material at vulnerable locations and ensure timely arrangements for additional private equipment whenever required.
The Minister informed that before the monsoon, the department completed resurfacing of 155.95 km of roads, patchwork on 924.94 km, drain cleaning along 8,893.58 km and clearing of culverts across 9,414 km of roads.
Officials were instructed to closely monitor landslide-prone areas, ensure connectivity to essential services and immediately report damage caused by landslides, cloudbursts and floods. Round-the-clock control rooms will also be established for quick response during the monsoon season.
