CM Sukhu has pledged state government support to expand and modernize the infrastructure at Himachal Pradesh National Law University (HPNLU) in Shimla. Speaking at a review meeting regarding the institution’s ongoing challenges, the Chief Minister reiterated the government’s commitment to delivering quality legal education while encouraging the university to work toward generating its own internal resources.
To address immediate student needs, the state will fund the construction of new hostels for both men and women. Security measures are being prioritized, with directives issued to install barbed wire fencing along the perimeter of the girls’ hostel. Infrastructure upgrades will also tackle campus utility issues, including the installation of a new transformer to fix low voltage, the relocation of a high-tension power line passing over the hostel, and the undergrounding of overhead electrical wiring across the premises.
Additional directives target long-standing sanitation and supply problems. The Jal Shakti Department has been assigned to locate a suitable site for a dedicated sewage treatment plant, while the state will finance measures to eliminate drinking water shortages. Expressing her appreciation, HPNLU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Preeti Saxena thanked the Chief Minister for taking decisive action on these persistent campus issues.
