Escalating safety concerns over aggressive stray animals triggered public demonstrations organized by the Shimla Nagrik Sabha. Local residents gathered to voice strong opposition against municipal inaction following a fatal incident where a woman died after being ambushed by monkeys on her rooftop in the Cemetery area.
The citizen rights group submitted a formal list of demands to local authorities, emphasizing urgent safety measures across residential sectors and tourist pathways. Key demands include five lakh rupees in financial assistance for the victim’s family, an immediate ban on feeding animals in public spaces, and accelerated sterilization drives for stray dogs and monkeys.
Civic representatives highlighted that public walkways and pedestrian bridges have turned into high-risk zones due to roaming animal packs. The organization issued a firm warning to local administrators, demanding swift relocation and control measures to prevent further threats to public safety.
