Against the misty backdrop of Lok Bhavan in Shimla, the spirit of liberty echoed with resounding pride as Governor Kavinder Gupta unfurled the Tricolour to usher in India’s 80th Independence Day. Flanked by First Lady Bindu Gupta, the Governor inspected an impeccably turned-out contingent of the Police Guard before sharing sweets with the staff and extending warm greetings to the people of the hill state and the nation.
In a tribute to the country’s cultural and revolutionary roots, Governor Gupta unveiled a commemorative plaque dedicated to Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay, marking 150 years of Vande Mataram. Inscribed with the sacred stanzas of the National Song, the plaque serves as a reminder of the verses that once ignited the flame of freedom and continue to inspire modern patriotism and national unity.
Reflecting on the monumental sacrifices of India’s freedom fighters and frontline soldiers, the Governor emphasized that August 15 is far more than a routine ceremonial unfurling—it is a moment of deep introspection and shared responsibility toward the nation’s security and unity. He highlighted India’s strides under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, pointing to growing confidence, robust defence capabilities, and the strategic vision of the Sapta Dhara (Seven Streams of Strength) aimed at achieving a fully developed Viksit Bharat by 2047.
Turning his focus to the state’s potential, Governor Gupta outlined a blueprint for an Aatmanirbhar Himachal. He stressed that by harmonizing its rich heritage, hardworking people, and natural resources, the state can drive equitable development while safeguarding the fragile Himalayan ecosystem. Closing with a powerful call to action, he urged the youth to spearhead nation-building through innovation and public service, while leading a crusade against substance abuse through the Nasha Mukt Himachal initiative to secure a healthy, prosperous future.
