He noted that news influences every section of society, administration and government, and since Independence, print media has played the role of a vigilant watchdog, strengthening democratic values and providing constructive feedback.

Agnihotri said that the state government gives top priority to feedback received through the media. He added that even negative reporting is taken positively, as it helps identify shortcomings and improve governance for public welfare. He said that media inputs have consistently encouraged the government to bring positive changes in its welfare-oriented policies.

He also mentioned that Himachal Pradesh is the first state in the country to declare around 6,000 destitute children as “Children of the State” under the Mukhya Mantri Sukh-Aashray Scheme, ensuring a secure future for them.
