The State Election Commission Himachal Pradesh has issued a notification enforcing the Model Code of Conduct in the territorial jurisdictions of Municipal Council Rohru and Nagar Panchayat Narkanda in Shimla district, following the announcement of the election programme for general municipal elections.

According to the notification issued under Article 243ZA of the Constitution of India and Section 281 of the Himachal Pradesh Municipal Act, 1994, the Model Code of Conduct comes into effect immediately in both urban local bodies.

The Commission had earlier released the election schedule for conducting general elections in the two municipalities, and with this notification, all provisions of the Model Code of Conduct will now remain in force until the completion of the electoral process.

The code of conduct is based on guidelines notified by the Commission in 2020 and is intended to ensure free, fair, and transparent elections by regulating the activities of political parties, candidates, and government authorities during the election period.

The notification has been circulated to the Governor’s office, Chief Minister’s Office, senior state officials, district administration, police authorities, and media departments for strict compliance and wide publicity.
